Neighbourhood officers have continued to utilise plain-clothed tactics to target criminality, particularly during the evenings and throughout the night. During our latest operation, officers carried out multiple vehicle stops in relation to the manner of driving and suspicious circumstances. These proactive patrols allow us to disrupt criminal activity and identify individuals involved in offending. The team also conducted a number of stop searches, resulting in the recovery of a stolen vehicle, preventing it from being used in further criminality. It is apparent that thieves are using the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) port to re-programme blank keys and steal vehicles within seconds. To help protect your vehicle, we advise having an OBD port protector installed or upgrading to a security system that includes deadlock protection for the port. Robust, visible deterrents such as steering wheel locks are also a relatively inexpensive option and can make your vehicle less desirable to thieves. We will continue to carry out both high-visibility and plain-clothed patrols across the area to tackle crime, protect our communities, and target those who believe they can operate without consequence. If you have information about criminal activity in your area, please report it via 101 or through the GMP website. In an emergency, always call 999.
